Overall Responsibilities:  Toperform basic duties related to overall patient services at theTri-Town Community Action Agency, under the direction/supervision of theClinical Nurse Manager. 

Specific Responsibilities:  The Registered Nurse is expected to:  Provideclinical and technical support for the Primary Care Providers byassisting Providers with exams and minor surgical procedures as needed;Administer vaccinations and injections, under the supervision of aProvider and in accordance with Agency procedures; Triage patient phonecalls providing, advice and health care information or coordination andprioritization of sick visits on an as needed based on patient’scomplaints or needs; Act as a resource person for MedicalAssistants/Receptionists, providing support and guidance regardingpatients’ medical/health care needs; Authorize prescriptions on anindependent basis with established standing orders and in accordancewith Tri-Town policies and procedures; Review and categorize labs, i.e.normal, abnormal needing immediate attention, etc.  Notifiespatients of test results, under the guidance and knowledge ofProviders; Ensure the security of all medications by logging, trackingand disposing as necessary; Perform measurements and clinical testingprocedures according to policies and procedures; Performs CLIA waivedtesting; Participate in Family Planning education, including counselingafter pregnancy test, administering Depo-Provera, dispensing OCPsamples; Provides HIV counseling; Maintain logs for quality assurance,Pap Log, STD Log, Lead log and Prenatal Log; Order educationalmaterials.  Ensure approval of education materials prior toordering. Provide community education in the form of presentations,flyers, group work, etc.; Follows infection control policies andstandards as well as CLIA standards; and Maintain OSHA guidelines.

Special Qualifications:  Interpretingskills in order to decipher technical medical terminology; Basicknowledge of the availability of all available methods of communicationfor patients, such as interpreters, individual counseling, groupdiscussions, written materials and visual aids; Good communicationskills in order to identify the cultural, social and economic characterof the patient population served; Adherence to the strictest ofconfidentiality policies and procedures; Self-directed/reliant skillsneeded to make independent medical decisions daily, example ordering U/Afor UTI, throat cultures with standing orders by the Medical Directorand in accordance with Tri-Town’s policies and procedures; Clear,objective and concise documentation skills necessary; and Bilingualability a plus.

Required Qualifications:  ValidRN (RI License) with ongoing maintenance of license; Valid CPRcertification; Ambulatory health care experience preferred; HIVcertification desirable; and Triage skills.
